Catering primarily to business travelers, this well-kept chain hotel is also a good bet for vacationers. Its located in cobblestoned South Street Seaport, within walking distance of the ferries to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and Staten Island. Though theyre housed in an 1852 building with a beautifully restored exterior, the guest rooms are what youd expect from a Best Western, but theyre quite comfortable. Each is equipped with a work desk, phone with data port, refrigerator, VCR, hair dryer, clock radio, and safe; some have small dining tables, sleeper sofas, steam baths, whirlpools, and/or terraces with fine views of the seaport. On the downside, some closets consist only of racks on the walls and the towels are motel-thin, but there are luggage-size benches in each room and the bathrooms are spacious. Ask for a corner room for extra space - they boast two queen beds and lots of windows, some with wonderful water views. Light sleepers should ask for an inside room, since the Fulton Fish Market is right next door, and its in full swing daily from 11pm to 8am.
Facilities: Video rentals and valet service are available, and a fitness room was added in 1999. Theres no room service, but nearby restaurants are happy to deliver.
